Weird Cuts is a creation by Zach Lieberman and Molmol Kuo, supported by Google Arts & Culture. This app offers a unique experience of manipulating photographs and delving into the poetics of augmented reality.
The application features two distinct modes: cutout mode and collage mode. In the cutout mode, users are prompted to explore their surroundings and capture a diverse array of materials via photographs that can later be edited into various shapes.
Collage mode allows users to intricately assemble and position their cutouts in a three-dimensional space through screen interactions such as moving and tapping.
Users have the flexibility to refine shapes by adjusting them with simple gestures like rotating and scaling using touch controls.
The end result is a multidimensional artwork crafted from a blend of collected objects, found materials, and spatial arrangements. Weird Cuts draws inspiration from renowned artists like Hannah Hoch, David Hockney, Gego (Gertrud Louise Goldschmidt), Ruth Asawa, Jean Arp, among others.
